2027 African Championships — Zimbabwe Team Selection Criteria

The African Championships take place at Wattlespring SSC in March 2027. Zimbabwe team selection uses the best four Compak results and best three Sporting results. See the dates, team sizes and selection rules.

Championships at a glance

Both championships will be held at Wattlespring SSC:

  • FITASC Sporting African Championship: 2–3 March 2027.
  • FITASC Compak Sporting African Championship: 5–6 March 2027.

The Clay Target Shooting Association of Zimbabwe (CTSAZ) has issued the following team selection criteria.

Compak Sporting — best four results

  • Qualifying period: 18 September 2026 up to and including the last scheduled Compak competition on the first weekend of February 2027.
  • Qualifying events: CTSAZ registered shoots.
  • Results counted: the best four 100-target results.
  • Selection points: the sum of the highest four percentages of the event High Gun score.
  • Teams: three shooters in each category — Men, Seniors, Ladies, Juniors, Veterans and Super Veterans.

Clarification: the official PDF refers to “best 4” scores but later says “highest 5” percentages. The correct number is four, as confirmed by the club. The original PDF has been retained unchanged.

Sporting — best three results

  • Qualifying period: 26 September 2026 up to and including the last scheduled Sporting shoot before the end of January 2027.
  • Qualifying events: CTSAZ registered shoots.
  • Results counted: the best three 100-target results.
  • Selection points: the sum of the highest three percentages of the event High Gun score.
  • Men’s team: four shooters.
  • Other teams: three shooters each in Seniors, Ladies, Juniors, Veterans and Super Veterans.

How qualifying events count

For both disciplines, a 200-target competition is treated as two 100-target competitions for selection purposes. For events with fewer than 100 targets, the percentage in relation to the event’s total High Gun score is used.

If competitors are tied

Unless otherwise stated, team-selection ties are resolved in this order:

  1. Compare each tied competitor’s next-best result that is not already being used for team selection.
  2. If still tied, compare the second-best unused result, then further unused results until the tie is resolved.
  3. If a tied competitor has completed no events beyond those counted for selection, the tied competitor who has completed more events is selected.
  4. If competitors have completed the same number of events and remain tied after all events are counted, they complete a 25-target shoot-off at a date and venue determined by the selection committee.
  5. If still tied after 25 targets, the winner is decided by sudden death.

Age categories and choosing a team

See the official FITASC age-category definitions.

A junior, veteran or super veteran who qualifies for the men’s team may choose to represent either the men’s team or their own category team.

Important: choosing the men’s team also means competing individually in the men’s category at the African Championships. The shooter will no longer be eligible to compete individually as a junior, veteran or super veteran at that championship.
